Amitabha, also known as Amitayus Buddha, holds a prominent position among the five cosmic figures of Himalayan Esoteric Buddhism. Amitabha Buddha has appeared in the form of both the historical Buddha Gotama and the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara.
