The Lotus Seeds mala, widely recognized for its unique properties, is crafted from seeds obtained from a tree that thrives in the foothills of the Himalayas, primarily found in Nepal and Tibet. Interestingly, these seeds are not the same as those of the lotus flower, which are commonly used in cooking across various East and Southeast Asian cultures. Hence, they are not suitable for creating mala beads. Instead, these beads are referred to as “stars and moon bodhiseed” in East Asia, as each seed boasts an indeterminate number of natural specks resembling stars, along with a single round indentation resembling the moon, where the stem of the seed once was.
Among Vajrayana Buddhists in Tibet, Nepal, India, Bhutan, China, and other regions, this lotus seed mala is often associated with the Lotus Family of the Five Buddha Families. Consequently, many lamas recommend using this mala for practices related to Amitabha, Chenrezig/Avalokiteshvara, and Tara, considering it an auspicious material for such endeavors. Embrace the spiritual significance and ancient tradition embedded within this profound Lotus Seeds mala.
